Department Overview
The Technology division manages and supports all aspects of technology delivery across the Bank-from maintaining critical systems that underpin the UK economy, to enabling big data analytics, advancing cyber-security capabilities, and driving innovation to support a modern digital workplace.

The SQL DBA - Infrastructure role sits within the Hosting Domain and is accountable for supporting the Bank's SQL Server estate. This is a predominantly operational/support role, with occasional involvement in small-scale project delivery. The successful candidate will specialise in SQL Server support, maintenance, optimisation, and release activities.
Key Responsibilities
SQL Server Database Administration
Manage and maintain SQL Server databases across the Bank's environment.
Configure, optimise, and support SQL Server instances and associated processes.
Monitor overall system health, performance, and capacity.
Ensure high levels of availability, resilience, performance, and security.
Troubleshoot and resolve incidents in Real Time.
Provide recommendations for improvements and corrective actions.
Operational Excellence
Automate routine tasks, streamline recurring processes, and maintain clear documentation.
Support development teams with query tuning, schema optimisation, and best practices.
Manage backups, restores, and recovery operations; ensure compliance with defined recovery models.
Support after-hours maintenance activities and release deployments as required.
Provide 24×7 on-call support for critical production systems on a rotational basis.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
Implement, maintain, and optimise SQL Server HA/DR solutions, ensuring robust business continuity.
Validate and test failover processes and ensure readiness for real-world scenarios.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar technical role.
Strong expertise in:
Performance Tuning and Optimisation (PTO)
Backup/restore strategies and recovery models
High Availability & Disaster Recovery frameworks (AlwaysOn, clustering, log shipping, mirroring, etc.)
Hands-on experience with Windows Server, including Active Directory integration.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure.
Ownership mindset, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality service delivery.
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate within cross-functional teams.
Good time-management and organisational skills.
Preferred/Advantageous
MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications in relevant Microsoft technologies.
