Program Overview
We welcome motivated and academically driven risk management college students to participate in our intensive 10-week summer commercial underwriting internship program. Dependent on location, candidates will be aligned to either our umbrella, general liability or property programs. This unparalleled opportunity is specially crafted for early-career professionals eager to explore the world of underwriting.
Our program is designed for those who share our dedication and passion for underwriting and insurance. We prioritize the professional development of our interns, investing significantly in their potential. As part of our comprehensive underwriting program, you will be introduced to our technology, people and processes, as well as immerse yourselves in our culture.
In addition to interacting with top C-suite professionals during intern enrichment sessions, you will also get the unique chance to take part in mentorship opportunities for business leaders, learn industry insights and gain practical hands-on experience through shadowing professionals within our dynamic underwriting team and assisting with part of the underwriting process.
Responsibilities
Engage fully in our 10-week comprehensive learning program designed to provide a deep understanding of underwriting and insurance. Over the course of the internship program, you will get hands-on experience as an UW, the ability to work on projects and assignments, and applying your theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. Other responsibilities include:
Pull requested loss runs for accounts
Assist with the submission intake process
Complete non-monetary endorsements such as mailing address changes
Assist team members with tasks such as entering risk information into rater for quoting purposes
Shadow team members in every department to learn the business and workflow
Requirements
A demonstrated passion for risk management and insurance
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Economics, Liberal Arts or a related field
The ability to work well in a team and collaborate with various levels of the organization
The capacity to work independently while fostering a positive group dynamic
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Demonstrated leadership potential through academic, extracurricular activities, internships, or volunteer work
Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams and adapt to new situations quickly
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Python) is a plus
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Authorized to work in the country of employment without sponsorship
Preferred
Previous internship or work experience in a related field
Coursework or projects involving data analysis, business strategy, or technology
Interest in pursuing a long-term career with our organization
