Due to continued growth and investment in engineering capability, we’re supporting a well-established UK SaaS provider as they appoint a Principal Back-End Developer. This organisation delivers a core platform used at scale and is committed to evolving its technology landscape to support long-term growth and performance.

About the Role

This is a senior, hands-on position combining deep technical expertise with leadership and mentorship. You will take ownership of back-end architecture and technical strategy, ensuring the platform remains scalable, resilient and aligned to wider business objectives.

Responsibilities

Influence back-end architecture and platform strategy
Define engineering standards, improve development practices and enhance tooling and observability
Mentor and support other engineers, helping to raise the overall technical capability of the team

Required Skills

Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET (6+)
Expert knowledge of SQL Server
Proven experience with Test-Driven Development (NUnit)
Experience building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs
Solid understanding of SOLID principles, OOP and modern back-end design
Confidence diagnosing and resolving complex production issues
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction

Preferred Skills

Entity Framework or similar ORMs
Azure and modern DevOps / CI/CD practices
Observability tools (logging, metrics, monitoring)
Strong awareness of security best practice

Pay range and compensation package

Salary up to £80,000
