What we're building
Healthcare-acquired infections kill tens of thousands of people every year. When an outbreak is detected, clinical staff trace who's been exposed manually — pen, paper, memory. It's slow, inaccurate, and leaves real gaps.
Proxximos fixes this. Wearables worn by staff and patients continuously log proximity data, so when an infection is identified we can instantly map every transmission path — who was exposed, when, and for how long.
The data we generate — fine-grained proximity and exposure patterns across clinical environments — is genuinely novel. We're moving into AI-driven insights beyond contact tracing: earlier outbreak detection, risk prediction and smarter infection control.
We've completed a clinical investigation at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and are moving into paid pilots at Addenbrooke's and others. The product is real, the problem is urgent.
The role
You'd be joining a small highly motivated team, building and scaling a platform at the intersection of connected hardware, clinical data, and real-time proximity tracking.
We have a Microsoft-stack: .NET, SQL Server, Azure, with React frontend. We'd love someone with database and infrastructure depth — but we care more about finding the right person than ticking boxes. A strong full-stack or frontend engineer who's excited by the mission may also be considered.
This role will be shaped by who joins. We want someone with experience and insight who'll push back when something's wrong, knows when to question the AI tools and able to grow into a senior role as we scale.
How we work
We're building the kind of engineering culture that forms great companies— standards set early and held as the team grows.
We take ownership seriously, work to high standards, and ship incrementally. We use AI development tools and expect everyone on the team to use them well. We want people who debate clearly and commit fully.
What you'll work on
Data engineering in production — schema design, performance, reliability, and extracting insight from complex real-world datasets
Azure infrastructure — infrastructure-as-code, deployments, monitoring, scaling
.NET backend — APIs, IoT data ingestion, serverless functions
Frontend when needed
Engineering practices and culture as the team grows
What we're looking for
Mid-level experience — with strong trajectory and attitude over years
Self-directed, comfortable without a large team around you
Azure and SQL Server in production — you know what it's like when something real depends on you
Strong code fundamentals: security, correctness, maintainability
Low ego, high curiosity
Bonus: regulated environments, IoT, or prior startup experience
What we offer
Work that directly affects patient safety
Real ownership and autonomy from day one
Building an engineering team from the ground up
Flexible, remote-friendly with some time in Cambridge
£60,000 + options, with some flexibility for the right person
