Quality Assurance Analyst (Backend Automation - Java)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Analyst specializing in backend automation testing. This role focuses on validating APIs, business logic, and system integrations using Java-based automation frameworks.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring quality across backend services within a complex enterprise environment. This is a hands-on backend automation role with no UI testing responsibilities.

In addition to QA activities, the candidate may also be involved in certain backend development-related tasks, contributing to technical enhancements and supporting delivery initiatives when required.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and execute backend functional and automation testing activities across all test cycles.

Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into clear, executable backend test scenarios.

Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using Java-based frameworks.

Execute automated test suites and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.

Validate RESTful APIs, JSON payloads, service integrations, and database transactions.

Develop and maintain test documentation including test plans, test cases, and execution reports.

Identify, document, and analyze defects; perform root-cause analysis and collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to resolve issues.

Contribute to continuous improvement of backend automation frameworks, reusable components, and test data management processes.

Support backend development initiatives when required, including assisting with technical analysis, code reviews, and minor development tasks.

Proactively identify risks and gaps in backend test coverage and recommend improvements.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance within large or complex environments.

Strong hands-on experience in backend test automation using Java.

Experience testing RESTful APIs, service integrations, and database validations.

Exposure to backend development practices and ability to contribute to technical tasks when needed.

Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts and Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Experience with Jira and Confluence.

Strong analytical and communication skills.

Experience in the insurance industry (P&C) is considered a strong asset.

English required; French is an asset.
