Responsible to the –Director Corporate Safety, FDA and Investigations for the day-to-day operation of the Flight Data Analysis Laboratory and hardware equipment; managing all system resources, playback and FDA reporting tools for Air Canada and External Clients; coordinating IT and security audits on all FDA systems and links to third party applications; providing FDA support to Business Intelligence, Maintenance and other users of FDA and FDA data as defined and approved; coordinating with the Specialist, Flight Data Analysis and Programs and Specialist, IT and Data Services - FDA to develop and maintain FDA SQL database links to the Corporate BI Database and in integrating third party databases with the FDA system; overseeing all data mining and data query applications; and for conducting, reviewing and reporting on all flight data analysis work for their assigned Fleet(s).
Responsibilities
Coordinating all resources within the Flight Data Analysis laboratory including managing all computer systems and hardware including desktops, laptops, the internal wireless system and server equipment. Managing system software, including operating systems and anti-virus programs, and set-ups as well as monitoring all systems and processes to ensure system operations and integrity;
Overseeing the equipment and processes to manage and collect flight data from the Flight Data Analysis fleet(s);
Processing flight data and identifying adverse trends and safety issues. Specifically, notify Air Canada Maintenance of aircraft faults and deviations regarding aircraft systems and advising the Air Canada Gatekeepers of sensitive exceedance flights requiring further review;
Developing unique software applications and improvements to enhance the basic Flight Data Analysis Program, including projects such as the design, development and/or enhancement of cockpit animation displays using unique Air Canada parametric data;
Managing assigned Air Canada Flight Data Analysis aircraft data maps and recommending and coordinating changes and improvements to these products in collaboration with our external partners/service providers.
Managing the Flight Data Analysis Program’s specific fleet event set and master list of parameters, as assigned, and overseeing changes to these documents and programs as required;
Developing unique weekly, monthly, quarterly and ongoing system reports tailored to the needs and requirements of Air Canada, Flight Operations, Maintenance, Business Intelligence and other clients as required;
Providing detailed comprehensive briefings for Quarterly Safety Boards, Fleet meetings, Risk meetings, Adhoc requirements etc., to Senior Management, Fleet Managers and selected audiences concerning Flight Data Analysis findings, risks and concerns;
Maintaining a capability to respond to short notice taskings for data analysis and maintenance reviews to prevent unnecessary aircraft downtime and operational delays;
Maintaining daily contact with Vendor Staff regarding work products and audit the quality of the Vendor’s work and support services, as appropriate, on an ongoing basis;
Coordinating briefings, visits and inspections of the Flight Data Analysis Section as may be required to support and audits or legal requests;
Managing all aspects of Program Security including monitoring the actions of internal and vendor staff, data access requests, sharing of data and data usage to ensure the Program remains in full compliance with agreed principles and standard operating protocols. Coordinate IT security audits on the Operating System and related FDA software as appropriate.
Coordinating, and where necessary, providing support to FDA and non-FDA staff, including Maintenance, Flight Operations, Business Intelligence and ALPA personnel, in order that these Departments can effectively employ FDA resources. Develop lesson plans to assist Business Intelligence, Maintenance and Fleet staff to perform data mining / data query operations as appropriate;
Assisting the Specialist, Flight Data Analysis and Programs and Specialist, IT and Data Services - FDA in developing tailored Flight Data solutions to internal and external clients such as developing a comprehensive event set to monitor maintenance issues on all FDA monitored Fleets.
Assisting the Specialist, Flight Data Analysis and Programs and Specialist, IT and Data Services - FDA in developing appropriate linkages for FDA to support and share data/resources with the Company IT resources including any Centralized Database/Data Warehouse, as may be developed, and selected programs including LIDO, Jeppesen, Crew Rostering, Safety SIMS and Fatigue Risk Management amongst others;
