Data Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a forward-thinking analytics team supporting a large enterprise banking environment in Toronto. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building robust data pipelines, improving data infrastructure, and contributing to modernization initiatives using cloud-based technologies. You will work closely with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable data solutions that enable smarter decision-making across the organization.

Required Skills

5+ years of experience in data engineering and ETL development
Strong expertise in Python and SQL
Solid knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and analytics architecture
Experience designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines
Hands-on exposure to AWS-based data tools and cloud data environments
Experience contributing to technology modernization or migration initiatives
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills

Nice to Have Skills

Experience with AWS SageMaker
Knowledge of SAS and WebFOCUS
Exposure to machine learning workflows
Familiarity with cloud data governance, security, and compliance
Experience with CI/CD practices for data engineering deployments
Background in the banking or financial services industry

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred
Experience working in enterprise-scale data environments
Proven ability to partner with technical and business teams to deliver effective data solutions

Other Requirements

12-month contract opportunity with strong potential for extension
Possibility of conversion to a permanent role
Hybrid role based in Toronto, Ontario, with 3 days onsite per week
Ability to work in a collaborative, delivery-focused team environment
