Overview
Position Title: Scrum Master
Location: Aberdeen, MD
Reports To: Agile Coach/Team Lead
Job Type: Full-time
Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain a government security clearance. US Citizenship is required.
Summary
The Agile Scrum Leader is a servant-leader and guide for one or more cross-functional development teams and is the driving force behind team improvement and the execution of continually evolving methodologies and processes. This role is responsible for promoting and supporting agile best practices, working to identify and eliminate impediments for the team(s), gathering and analyzing key performance metrics, evaluating team performance, facilitating agile team events, and fostering an environment dedicated to continuous improvement and the delivery of high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities
Agile Servant Leadership
Facilitate and document continual improvement by teaching Agile and Lean-Agile mindsets, and assisting the Agile Coach in designing unique Retrospectives that engage critical introspection and which result in accountable SMART goals; foster a culture of Kaizen where small, incremental changes are validated through continuous feedback and analysis.
Provide agile-focused 1-on-1and team professional development and mentorship to Resource Leads (team leads) and cross-functional development team members.
Facilitate discussion, decision-making, and conflict resolution within the team to maintain a healthy, collaborative culture.
Collaborate with and assist other Scrum Leaders and take part in Scrum of Scrums.
Encourage and promote all team and company best practices.
Practical Implementation of Agility
Train development teams in principles of self-organization, cross-functionality, and the adoption of agile values, the 12 Principles of Agile Software Development, and the 10 SAFe Lean-Agile Principles.
Review daily virtual stand-ups and facilitate all Agile Team Events (ATEs) including stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives in order to ensure discussions are focused, productive, and timeboxed.
Proactively identify and remove blockers or impediments, and communicate with other Scrum Leaders and/or development teams in order to ensure communication between teams is continual and transparent.
Monitor, compile, analyze, and present qualitative feedback and data-driven performance tracking for teams using agile metrics to identify systemic impediments, evaluate improvements, and to increase team productivity/consistency.
As needed, assist the Agile Coach in updating and maintaining all program documentation related to Agile best practices.
As needed, assist the Product Owner and Agile Coach with backlog refinement, defining user stories, and ensuring the product vision is clear and attainable.
Tool Proficiency
Atlassian Suite Proficiency
Understand and train team members on Jira project best practices regarding workflows, fields, issue types, labels, components, etc.
Review and update automated reporting dashboards and Advanced Roadmaps to provide real-time visibility into individual and team velocity, flow, burn-up/down charts, and program predictability metrics.
Manage combined GSuite team calendars.
Manage combined team communications using Slack, GMeet, and MS Teams, assisting teams with access and best use.
Qualifications
Education:
B.S. degree ideally in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline.
Required, must hold at least one of the following recognized Scrum Master certifications:
SAFe 6 Scrum Master (SSM, Scaled Agile)
Certified ScrumMaster (CSM, Scrum Alliance)
Professional Scrum Master (PSM-I, Scrum.org)
Preferred:
Advanced Scrum Master certifications (A-CSM, PSM II)
SAFe 6 Practice Consultant (SPC)
Atlassian Certified Professional (Jira/Confluence Administration, Cloud and On Prem)
Experience
This position is open to entry-level applicants coming out of a technical Bachelor's degree program who have a desire to grow skills relating to Agile leadership, training, and facilitation.
For experienced applicants, we prefer experience directly in software engineering or Agile/Scrum positions.
Skills
Understanding of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development and the many other agile frameworks and methodologies.
Understanding of the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, Confluence, JSM), Slack, GSuite, and Microsoft Teams and Office Suite.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to analyze complex situations and guide teams toward effective solutions without dictating outcomes by using a "people-first" mindset with the ability to lead through influence rather than authority.
Proficiency in using various facilitation techniques to drive engagement and collect feedback.
