This is a unique opportunity to transform the future of an established charity that currently has a blank canvas for digital marketing and the capacity to grow. Calvert Kielder leads the UK in the delivery of accessibility-inclusive holidays and visits in the heart of the Kielder Water and Forest park through its unique range of provision and community of care. It requires an enthusiastic team player with a demonstrable affinity for transforming lives shaped by societies structural discrimination around disability, to lives shaped by acceptance, dignity and human flourishing, that ultimately changes society by example. While the role is hybrid it requires a preparedness to be on site regularly.

Calvert Kielder leads the way in the UK in delivering accessibility-inclusive forest holidays for individuals, families and groups. Research shows that the impact of visiting is greater than the sum of its parts. Guests return year after year because of the unique blend of spacious lodges, catered accommodation and outdoor activities in beautiful ‘dark skies’ Northumberland, because this is woven together in an structurally inclusive and emotionally accessible, non-judgmental experience, created by an exceptional team, long term investment and the guest community themselves. The result is an experience of peace and wellbeing that lasts long after the visit for everyone.
Following the appointment of a new CEO, the charity has identified a significant opportunity to transform its bookings and stakeholder engagement through digital marketing.
The Role
The role is 2 days a week (working between home and on site), reports to the CEO, is part of the charity’s senior management team and is supported by a part time Marketing Administrator. It would suite a freelance contractor with an initial contract length of 2 years with one month notice for either party.
Aim: To drive revenue growth and stakeholder engagement by planning and executing comprehensive online strategies across SEO/SEM, email, social media, and paid campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
• Creative Direction & Brand Expression: Shape the brand’s digital voice and visual identity across channels, ensuring creative output that balances performance goals with brand-building.
• Strategy Development: Lead the development of a new web site and back of house CRM architecture to create high-impact storytelling across website, email, and social media with clear outcome criteria, including accommodation occupancy growth.
• Campaign Management: Lead the creative concepting for campaigns, from idea to execution, producing bold, differentiated campaigns, that generate organic reach and conversation that can be tracked through to target delivery.
• Analytics & Reporting: Optimize paid media (PPC), SEO, email marketing, and social media campaigns using web analytics tools (e.g., GA4, CRM platforms) to track, report, and analyse campaign performance.
• Content & Brand Strategy: Guide content strategy including thought leadership, video, interactive content, and experiential digital initiatives through content creation parameters, authorisation structures, editorial calendar and multi-channel content planning, ensuring brand consistency across all digital touchpoints.
• Budget Management: Manage marketing budgets to maximize ROI on digital investments and optimise creatives and messages to enhance performance.
• Coach and enable a marketing administrator: To support the day to day running of the digital marketing strategy.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Experience: Proven experience as a Digital Marketing Manager or similar role, typically with 3–5+ years in digital marketing.
• Creative Skills: Proven creative development and management skills with a track record of successful creative campaigns.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Google Analytics, SEO tools (e.g., Semrush, Ahrefs), social media advertising (e.g. Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn Ads), and CMS platforms (particularly WordPress).
• Tools: Proficient in using CRM software (e.g. Beacon, Plinth, HubSpot CRM) and marketing automation tools.
• Analytical Ability: Strong analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for content creation and reporting.
Contract Remuneration
The contract would attract a day rate of up to £170 depending on experience and assumes 92 working days in a year. (Hours and rate negotiable and could also be as an employee on a fixed term contract).
