SENIOR IT CONSULTANT – INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS (MES / WMS / OT-IT INTEGRATION) – FRANCE – LONG-TERM TRANSFORMATION PROJECT

Location: Pont-à-Mousson, France (near Nancy & Metz)

Contract: Freelance / Contract

Duration: Initial 6 months (long-term programme – potential extension up to 3 years or permanent option)

Start Date: 1 April

Rate: Negotiable daily rate

Languages: Fluent French & English required

Overview

We are supporting a key industrial client in the search for a Senior IT Consultant with strong industrial sector experience to join a major transformation programme based in Pont-à-Mousson, France.

This role is part of Project Orion, a strategic industrial modernisation initiative aimed at significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and modernising the site’s production infrastructure. The programme includes replacing the existing blast furnaces with a new Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) and implementing a modern industrial IT landscape integrating supervision systems, MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), WMS (Warehouse Management Systems), and strong OT/IT integration.

The consultant will play a central role in designing, selecting, integrating and deploying industrial applications to support the future production environment.

This is a long-term, committed project, initially offered as a 6-month freelance assignment with the possibility of extension or permanent transition.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Coordination

Plan, organise and coordinate IT activities related to industrial applications
Facilitate collaboration between technical, operational and business teams
Lead project follow-up meetings and stakeholder coordination
Prepare and support steering committee meetings

Industrial Application Design

Facilitate business and technical workshops with operational teams
Analyse functional and operational requirements
Contribute to the design of the future industrial application landscape
Ensure consistency across application solutions and production processes

Software Selection & Tender Process

Support the preparation of tender documentation (RFP/RFQ)
Participate in the evaluation of software vendors and solutions
Engage with vendors and assess the suitability of proposed solutions
Contribute to final software selection decisions

Documentation

Produce and maintain clear project documentation, including:

Requirements specifications
Functional design documents
Operating procedures and user guides

Testing, Go-Live & User Support

Prepare and coordinate testing and acceptance phases
Support go-live activities and deployment
Deliver user training and provide on-site support during key project phases

Required Experience:

6–10 years’ experience as an IT Consultant / Senior IT Consultant
Proven experience within industrial or manufacturing environments
Strong exposure to MES, WMS or industrial application ecosystems
Experience working with OT/IT integration
Solid understanding of production environments and operational constraints
Experience supporting software selection or tender processes
Ability to lead workshops and translate operational needs into system requirements

Key Skills:

Strong stakeholder management across technical and operational teams
Excellent communication and workshop facilitation skills
Autonomous, hands-on and solution-oriented approach
Ability to produce clear functional and technical documentation
Comfortable working in complex industrial environments

Languages:

Fluent French – essential
Fluent English – essential
