Back-end Software Engineer

Sunderland – 3 days a week on site (hybrid working)

Salary – £35,000 - £77,000 + bonus and benefits

Alderson James are currently partnered with one of the largest Igaming companies globally who are looking for a back-end software engineer to join their talented team based in Sunderland.

While the products are consumer-facing and interactive, this role is firmly backend-focused. You’ll design, build and maintain the core services, APIs, engine components, and data systems that sit behind the user experience. From business logic and event processing to compliance tooling and third-party integrations, your work will underpin highly available, secure, and scalable systems operating within a regulated environment.

You’ll collaborate closely with product, QA, frontend engineers, compliance, and information security teams to deliver reliable software that supports multiple concurrent projects.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills

Strong experience with C# (or comparable languages such as Java or Python)
Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles
Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs
Experience with client/server architectures
Strong SQL skills (T-SQL preferred)
Understanding of caching techniques and performance optimisation
Experience with version control systems (Git)
Familiarity with agile workflows and task management tools

Desirable Skills

Strong understanding of SOLID principles
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Cloud platform experience
Knowledge of distributed systems or event-driven architecture
Experience working in regulated environments
Understanding / knowledge of gaming mathematics
