At Leggett & Platt, our Communications team plays a crucial role in shaping the stories, messages, and visual content that represent our global operations. We develop and support workplace communications, strengthen employee engagement, and elevate our company’s brand through thoughtful storytelling and strategic social media presence. As part of a collaborative, fast-moving environment, the Communications team partners with business units worldwide to share impactful updates and connect our people to meaningful work happening across L&P.
As a Communications Intern, you will support the development, execution, and optimization of internal and external communication initiatives across the organization. This internship offers exposure to corporate communications strategy, opportunities to develop polished deliverables, and hands‑on experience in content creation and social media marketing. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams and contribute to real‑world communication challenges & strategies.
This role is ideal for a motivated, detail‑oriented student or early‑career professional eager to strengthen their skills in writing, digital communications, visual content, and corporate storytelling. You’ll receive mentorship, meaningful feedback, and support in a collaborative environment designed to build confidence and prepare you for the next step in your communications career.
So, what will you be doing as a Communications Intern?
Social Media Duties
Create graphics, captions, and story content for social media posts across all business units, including Instagram Stories for L&P Flooring Products.
Support community management by monitoring engagement, responding to comments, and helping maintain a consistent brand presence.
Participate in planning and executing social media campaigns, ensuring alignment with content calendars and timely delivery of posts.
Attend business unit touch base sessions to stay informed on priorities, gather updates, and contribute ideas for digital storytelling.
Communications Duties
Draft and edit internal communications, announcements, blog posts, and employee‑facing content that supports enterprise messaging.
Assist in collecting 4–5 safety stories from global branches for National Safety Month and translate them into polished safety spotlight blog posts.
Develop 4–6 social media graphics and accompanying copy to promote safety spotlights across Corporate LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram channels.
Contribute to the development of a companywide National Safety Month communication featuring selected safety stories and reinforcing L&P’s commitment to workplace safety.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather information, capture stories, and support broader communication and storytelling initiatives.
Additional duties as assigned.
To Be Successful In This Role, You’ll Need
Pursuing or currently obtaining a bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
Strong writing and editing skills with an interest in corporate storytelling.
Creativity and curiosity in developing content for digital and social platforms.
Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Interest in learning about social media analytics, brand voice, or corporate communications strategy.
Things We Consider a Plus
Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar design tools.
Familiarity with social media management platforms (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite).
Prior coursework or experience in public relations, marketing, or multimedia content creation.
Interest in photography or videography for digital content.
