Cloud Governance Analyst

Overview

As a Cloud Governance Analyst, you will play a critical role in enabling this organisations cloud-first strategy by embedding effective governance across product and platform teams. The role ensures cloud environments are secure, compliant, resilient and cost-effective, aligning cloud delivery with organisational objectives, regulatory obligations and financial controls. Operating at the intersection of Cloud Engineering, Architecture, FinOps, Risk and the business, the role drives continuous improvement in cloud maturity and operational efficiency.

Key Accountabilities

1. Cloud Governance Ownership

Partner with Cloud Engineering and Architecture to define, maintain and execute the cloud governance strategy.
Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, internal controls and industry best practice.

2. Risk Identification & Mitigation

Identify risks and vulnerabilities across the cloud estate.
Design proportionate mitigation measures and embed controls with business and engineering teams.
Support audit and assurance activity through evidence-based control validation.

3. Service Performance & Assurance

Define and monitor SLAs and KPIs for cloud platforms.
Strengthen governance, resilience and security posture through measurable performance frameworks.

4. FinOps & Cost Governance

Partner with FinOps to embed cost control and optimisation policies.
Enable shift-left cost visibility using tooling such as Infracost.
Support transparency, forecasting and efficient resource utilisation.

5. Standards, Policies & Guardrails

Design and enforce cloud governance guardrails and policies.
Ensure consistent application of standards across all cloud environments.

6. Cloud Front Door Enablement

Operate and continuously improve the cloud intake process.
Triage stakeholder requirements and connect demand to appropriate platform teams.

7. Maturity & Continuous Improvement

Coordinate cloud maturity assessments with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Recommend and implement governance and operational improvements.

8. Automation & Efficiency

Identify manual governance activities and automate where possible.
Improve consistency, reduce error and enhance operational scalability.

Knowledge & Capability

Strong understanding of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and hybrid cloud models.
Practical knowledge of cloud governance principles, policies and control frameworks.
Experience supporting regulatory compliance, risk mitigation and audit processes.
Understanding of FinOps and cloud cost management disciplines.
Exposure to product-led, platform-based operating models and Agile delivery.

Experience

Experience operating within large, complex organisations.
Proven stakeholder management across engineering, architecture, security and finance.
Strong analytical capability with structured problem-solving approach.
Experience embedding governance within continuous delivery environments.
Hands-on exposure to cloud platforms and cost management tooling.

Certifications (Desirable)

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
ITIL 4 Foundation
CRISC
