Role: Senior Active Directory Consultant

Location: 910 Louisiana Street, Suite 4400, Houston, TX 77002

Work Model: Onsite 4 days/week, 1 remote day

Duration: 12+ Months

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Active Directory Consultant to lead a strategic transformation from an Entra ID–centric environment to a secure, enterprise-grade Hybrid Active Directory architecture.

This role requires deep expertise in Active Directory design, hybrid identity integration, and security hardening, with strong experience integrating Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions. The environment is fast-paced and evolving, requiring a technically strong, execution-focused professional who can bring structure and security to a growing organization.

The first phase (approximately 2 months) will focus on architecture and implementation, followed by a migration phase (approximately 2 months).

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

Lead the design and implementation of a Hybrid AD architecture (Entra ID → Hybrid AD Integrated).
Design a secure, scalable AD forest and domain architecture.
Implement modern security controls, including:
Disabling legacy authentication protocols (NTLM, SMB1, etc.)
Enforcing modern cryptographic standards.
Design and implement:
Active Directory Certificate Services (PKI)
AD-integrated DNS architecture with Azure DNS
Secure Group Policy baseline framework
AD auditing and logging toolsets
Design AD infrastructure hosted in Azure VMs with Read-Only Domain Controllers (RODCs) on-premises.
Develop and document a comprehensive AD backup and disaster recovery strategy.

Migration & Integration

Lead migration of workstations and servers from Entra Joined to Hybrid Joined.
Oversee PAM integration with Active Directory.
Integrate AD with CyberArk (preferred).
Ensure secure integration between Entra ID (Azure AD) and on-premises infrastructure.
Provide technical leadership across teams during transformation and migration activities.

Security & Governance

Ensure AD environment is secure, resilient, and compliant with modern security best practices.
Implement least-privilege administrative models and role segmentation.
Provide direction on privileged access management architecture.
Deliver clear documentation, security validation reports, and roadmap articulation.
Act as technical lead providing strong communication, guidance, and execution ownership.

Required Qualifications

8–12+ years of experience in Active Directory and Identity & Access Management.
Proven success leading Hybrid AD transformation projects.
Deep expertise in:
Active Directory (Forest/Domain design)
Entra ID (Azure AD)
Hybrid identity integration
PAM integration with AD
Strong knowledge of:
PKI / AD Certificate Services
Azure VM-hosted domain controllers
DNS architecture (AD-integrated & Azure DNS)
Secure Group Policy design
AD auditing and logging tools
Experience implementing least-privilege models and administrative segmentation.
Strong understanding of disabling legacy authentication protocols.
Experience with AD backup and disaster recovery strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

CyberArk PAM implementation experience.
Experience in Azure-first or cloud modernization initiatives.
Experience leading AD security assessments or remediation projects.
Prior experience in complex hybrid/on-prem OT environments.
