Result of Service

Develop the detailed Project Workplan and Timetable to support the implementation timeline required in the Project Description.
Description of the Core Indicators to be delivered by the project at the national levels.
Description of the project’s approach to Knowledge Management, including, if any, plans for the project to learn from other relevant projects and initiatives and plans for the project to assess, document and share lessons learned with relevant stakeholders.
Formulation of the project Monitoring and Evaluation Plan including a Projects Result Framework and Budget to track project progress and effectiveness.
Update Project Financing Tables, showing the costs of the project Outcomes and Outputs.
Final revision of key section to make sure that structure and indicators align with GEF-style projects (with support from the International Consultant – Coordinator of PPG Activities).
Review and alterations of the project according to feedback from GEFSec (with support from the International Consultant – Coordinator of PPG Activities).

Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its Industry and Economy Division provides solutions to decision-makers and helps change the business environment by offering platforms for multi- stakeholder dialogue and cooperation, innovative policy options, pilot projects and creative market mechanisms to improve the quality of the environment and the well-being of citizens. It promotes sustainable patterns of consumption and production, makes efficient use of natural resources, ensures safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. This opportunity is located within the Minerals Unit at UNEP. The Unit strengthens action for responsible, circular and socially just minerals and metals value chains across UNEP. It also contributes to meeting development, energy, and digital needs (or demands) while supporting reduction of GHG emissions, enhanced resilience and adaptation to impacts of climate change; enhanced stability of land and water ecosystems; reduced land degradation, desertification and drought; and reduced exposures to harmful chemicals and pollution; as well as job creation, investment and value addition. More specifically the work of the Division with stakeholders from the mining sector has been covering the following priority areas: Environmental Governance of extractives – Regulations / Standards: Enhance policy convening and outreach, stakeholder and capacity-building to promote better environmental governance and sustainable development goals implementation; Science to Policy – Increasing knowledge and evidence on environmental impacts: provide policy-makers and stakeholders with impartial assessments, knowledge and science on environmental threats and impacts of the extractive industries; and Circular Economy – Sustainable Value Chain – Innovation: Work with companies and international initiatives to encourage adoption of sustainable practices along the value chain and enhance resource efficiency. The purpose of this assignment is to draft the CEO Endorsement Request package for the GBFF project “Mainstreaming Biodiversity in Productive Sectors: Responsible Sand Value Chain for Coastal Resilience in West Africa” and the required/relevant appendices and annexes using the latest templates revised by UNEP. The consultant will work under the supervision of UNEP’s Mineral Unit and in close coordination with national executing agencies in Liberia and The Gambia.

Qualifications/special skillsA Master’s degree in environmental sciences, international development or other relevant political or social sciences area is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two additional years of relevant professional experience in the required field, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. - A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the field of biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, protected areas management, natural resources, climate change or related field. - Demonstrable experience in the development and design of GEF projects and/or programmes is required - Experience with project development, implementation, management and monitoring and evaluation of sustainable development projects, in particular in the areas of biodiv
