Head of Data | Contract | 6 months | Outside IR35 | £600-£700 per day
I'm working with a major energy organisation who are going through a strategic transformation toward Real Time, AI driven decision making, modernised data infrastructure, and a deeply Embedded data culture. This role combines hands on leadership of automation and AI initiatives with the strategic responsibility of shaping the company's long term data vision. You will build a high performing team, elevate BI capabilities, and unlock value from rich customer data flows to improve customer understanding and operational efficiency.
This is a 6 month engagement, outside IR35, requiring two days per week on site in London. The technology environment includes GCP, Bit query, and Looker.
Key Responsibilities
Business Intelligence, Automation & Advanced Analytics
Transform BI from static reporting into dynamic, Real Time, self service analytics used across the organisation.
Design and implement modern data visualisation platforms and augmented analytics experiences.
Lead the delivery of AI/ML solutions, including NLP, computer vision, recommendation systems, and explainable AI.
Build scalable, secure data architectures and Real Time data pipelines, particularly around customer data flows.
Oversee data integration, microservices, and unstructured data workflows.
Drive automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency and customer insight.
Explore and champion innovative approaches such as federated learning and edge analytics.
Data Strategy, Leadership & Culture
Develop and own a holistic data strategy aligned with the organisation's transformation goals.
Shape and promote a data literate culture, enabling teams to make informed, AI supported decisions.
Partner with C suite and senior leaders to embed data driven thinking into strategic and operational processes.
Identify opportunities for revenue growth, customer experience improvement, and competitive advantage.
Build and mentor a high performing data team across engineering, analytics, and data science.
Represent the organisation externally as a thought leader in data and AI.
About You
Deep passion for data, analytics, automation, and emerging AI technologies.
Strong problem solver focused on delivering actionable insights and measurable business value.
Skilled in cloud platforms (especially GCP), SQL, Python, and modern BI tools such as Looker.
Strategic thinker able to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
Experienced leader who builds teams, drives innovation, and fosters collaboration.
Excellent communicator who influences senior stakeholders and builds cross functional relationships.
Advocate for data governance, ethics, and responsible AI.
