Job Title: Senior Software Engineer - Frontend
Do you want to solve the hardest problems in healthcare as you build the services that help millions of people find the right doctors, understand their costs, and choose the next best step for their care, alongside some of the most talented engineers you’ve ever worked with? As a Senior Software Engineer on the Health Plan Applications and Services team, you will be responsible for developing the application for our member-facing experience, ensuring our established systems remain robust while we architect the next generation of care guidance tools. You will have the opportunity to write a significant amount of code and build deep expertise in system design while solving the complex technical problems required to deliver our newest products.
You’ll work primarily in a frontend stack including Javascript, TypeScript, and React. You will collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional partners (Product, Backend, and Implementation) to deliver a seamless and performant experience for our users. This position requires an engineer who is comfortable moving between the maintenance of established infrastructure and the building of new services. Our established infrastructure requires a disciplined hand to maintain and refine, so we need a pragmatic builder who can effectively manage and optimize our core systems while simultaneously architecting cutting-edge solutions.
What You’ll Do
Develop and maintain frontend applications by writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code that supports high-throughput and low-latency requirements. Effective in paired programming and working independently.
Spend most of your time building single-page applications in React.
Participate in the deployment and monitoring of services within the AWS ecosystem.
Participate in code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD workflows.
Contribute to observability through logging and metrics; participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
Contribute to task definition, prioritization, and assignment.
Drive deliverables with a sense of urgency and ownership along with surfacing risks, mitigating them, and suggesting course corrections when appropriate.
Own multiple products with a DevOps and service-ownership mindset. Deliver quality solutions with test automation, instrumentation, monitoring, secure/defensive coding, resiliency, and scalability.
Collaborate on work with the team and other contributing teams, engaging cross-functionally to ensure successful project and/or product delivery.
Minimum Requirements
3+ years of professional software engineering experience building scalable and responsive web applications with a passion for delivering a superior user experience.
Experience deploying Javascript applications in the cloud with technologies such as webpack, gulp, ReactJS, and Node.js.
You love coding, and you crank out high-quality, easy-to-reason-about production software. You understand software design patterns, and you know why they are important.
Ability to take uncertain requirements, ask the right questions to solidify them, and then break them down into the parts that you can build.
Experience writing comprehensive unit and functional tests and being responsible for quality
Proficiency in web fundamentals such as Javascript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS
Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical teammates and stakeholders.
Preferred Requirements
Experience with other technologies we use on the team such as Ember, Java, Python, OpenSearch, Pulumi, Postgres, DynamoDB, and more
Experience with writing and maintaining design systems
Experience building AI powered solutions
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a variety of both internal and external sources.
