Role Title: Senior Engineer – Cyber Security (Operational Technology / Industrial Control Systems)

We are now recruiting for a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to be involved in delivering an industry-leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.

About The Role

You will develop, maintain, and justify the approach to cybersecurity assurance across C&I systems within the SMR. You’ll work closely with multiple departments, particularly safety, to ensure that security and safety requirements are integrated throughout the system lifecycle. You will also provide technical oversight of activities within the C&I department to ensure systems are protected from cyber risks and incidents.

Key Aspects Of The Role Include

Provide technical leadership on cybersecurity issues for OT systems across the C&I lifecycle
Develop and maintain security justifications within the C&I Safety and Security case using a claims-arguments-evidence approach
Support interactions with safety specialists and engineers to integrate safety and cybersecurity requirements
Engage with international standards bodies and national research groups for cybersecurity
Conduct threat and vulnerability assessments and support remediation activities
Review design specifications to ensure compliance with cybersecurity requirements and identify gaps against international standards and relevant good practice
Implement industrial cybersecurity standards and frameworks using a risk-based, proportionate approach
Support governance, policies, and procedures related to the security lifecycle
Ensure optimum cybersecurity solutions across procurement, production, operation, and maintenance phases
Contribute to training and cybersecurity culture awareness within C&I teams

We’ll Need You To

Lead cybersecurity assurance activities for OT and ICS systems
Collaborate across disciplines to integrate safety and security requirements
Apply structured methodologies for risk-based cybersecurity compliance
Deliver high-quality technical documentation and reviews

Key Skills Required

Significant experience with standards such as BS EN 61513, IEC 62645, IEC 62859, and relevant good practice (e.g., SCSC-173)
Working knowledge of software-based C&I systems, PLCs, and associated cybersecurity strategies
Experience producing substantiation using CAE or GSN techniques
Ability to present complex information clearly and work collaboratively across disciplines
Experience acting as an intelligent customer, specifying and reviewing third-party work
Degree in engineering and a relevant cybersecurity qualification (e.g., GICSP) or equivalent experience

Location:

Hybrid working with one of the following locations as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington.

Salary And Package

The salary band for this will be between £53,700 - £70,500 dependent on the skills, values, and knowledge you bring. There may be some flexibility with the starting salary in exceptional cases, and, in due course, there is the potential for you to develop the role further.
