Infrastructure Engineer

London | Hybrid (3 days onsite)

Nigel Frank is working with a financial services organisation based in London to appoint an experienced Infrastructure Engineer. This is a broad, hands-on role within a lean technology team, offering real ownership across infrastructure, cloud platforms, security, and end-user computing.

You’ll work closely with the Head of IT, acting as a trusted technical partner while also mentoring junior team members and contributing to both operational stability and strategic improvement initiatives.

The Role

This position blends senior-level support responsibilities with project delivery across a modern, security-focused IT estate. You’ll play a key role in maintaining day-to-day service excellence while helping shape and improve the organisation’s infrastructure, cloud platforms, and cyber security posture.

You will support colleagues across multiple locations and at all levels of the business - from front-office users to senior leadership - requiring the ability to clearly translate complex technical concepts into straightforward, business-friendly language.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and working across a broad technology stack rather than being siloed into a single specialism.

Key Responsibilities

Act as a senior escalation point for end-user support, both onsite and remote
Support and deputise for the Head of IT across infrastructure and operational matters
Mentor and support junior team members, sharing knowledge and promoting best practice
Deliver infrastructure and cloud projects alongside BAU responsibilities
Administer and support Microsoft 365, identity, collaboration, and device management
Manage and maintain Windows 11 desktop environments and core networking components
Support virtualised and cloud platforms, ensuring performance, availability, and resilience
Strengthen cyber security controls, access management, endpoint protection, and policy adherence
Manage incidents end-to-end and coordinate with third-party vendors where required
Participate in a rotational out-of-hours support model
Maintain clear, structured technical documentation in line with internal standards

What We’re Looking For

Several years’ experience in an Infrastructure Engineer, IT Engineer, or senior support role
Strong knowledge of Windows desktop environments and core networking principles
Practical Microsoft 365 administration experience (identity, devices, collaboration tools)
Experience supporting cloud platforms and virtualised infrastructure
Solid understanding of cyber security fundamentals (access controls, firewalls, endpoint security, data protection)
Experience with backup, recovery, and high-availability environments
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in simple, business-focused terms
Comfortable supporting stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership

Desirable Experience

Vendor management or third-party assurance exposure
Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Power Automate, or similar)
Experience with DLP, information protection, compliance, or governance tooling
Relevant Microsoft, infrastructure, or security certifications

Why Join?

Salary up to £60,000
Above-market annual bonus
Broad exposure across cloud, networking, infrastructure, and security
Opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders in a regulated financial services environment
Hybrid working (Central London office)
A role where initiative, ownership, and technical input are genuinely valued

If you're looking for a role where you can combine hands-on engineering, mentorship, project delivery, and strategic input - this opportunity offers both breadth and progression within a stable financial services environment.
