Over the course of this immersive, unpaid program (offered for academic credit only), interns will gain meaningful insight into the world of book publishing while contributing to real projects that drive our business forward. You’ll learn alongside experienced professionals, develop practical skills in your area of interest, and participate in opportunities designed to broaden your understanding of the publishing industry. Our goal is to help prepare the next generation of publishing talent while fostering a passion for books, art, and culture.

The Marketing Design Intern will work closely with the Marketing Designers on campaigns across the Adult and Children’s publishing list, promoting books ranging from popular children’s picture books and YA titles to high-end art books, award-winning graphic novels, adult commercial fiction, high-profile cookbooks, and the next nonfiction bestseller. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic designer and book lover with a passion for advertising and marketing design to join the Marketing team as a Summer Intern. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in marketing and advertising design while developing a deeper understanding of the publishing industry.

Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited academic institution. This internship is not open to recent graduates.

What You’d Be Doing

Assist with the design and preparation of marketing assets, including web ads, social media graphics, book mockups, print advertisements, and promotional materials.
Support file organization and preparation for both digital and print marketing projects.
Gain experience creating assets within established brand and style guidelines.
Collaborate with designers, marketers, and publicists on marketing initiatives.
Learning and networking with ABRAMS employees, publishing professionals, and fellow interns during this internship experience for academic credit
Gaining hands-on exposure to the publishing industry, from concept to finished product
Supporting research, project work, and day-to-day tasks within your assigned department
Contributing ideas and providing creative input on department projects
Collaborating with cross-functional teams and learning about various areas of the publishing business
Participating in workshops and discussions designed to deepen your understanding of publishing trends and processes
Receiving coaching, mentorship, and feedback from experienced ABRAMS professionals

We’re Looking For Someone Who Has

Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
Familiarity with Mac OS and the Microsoft Office Suite
Has a passion for design, books, and visual storytelling
Is interested in marketing design, including digital, print, and campaign branding
Demonstrates a strong foundation in design principles, including composition and typography
Can collaborate effectively with team members while also managing independent projects
Is open to feedback, able to incorporate direction, and capable of meeting deadlines

Highly Preferred Candidates Also Have

Experience creating content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
Familiarity with project management platforms such as Monday
Exposure to animation tools such as Adobe After Effects

Internship Details

Compensation: For credit only; must be enrolled in a college program offering internship credit.

Location: New York, NY, and follows a hybrid schedule, working 20-30 hours per week.

Duration: June 2, 2026 - August 14, 2026
