Transmission Design Engineer (Electrical, Civil, or Structural)
We are seeking experienced Engineers with transmission line experience to join a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering high-voltage transmission infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design, analysis, and execution of transmission systems ranging from 60 kV to 500 kV, supporting critical energy infrastructure projects.
Engineers from Electrical, Civil, or Structural disciplines with experience in transmission line design and engineering are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the design and engineering of high-voltage transmission line projects (60 kV to 500 kV) as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Perform discipline-specific engineering studies and analyses related to transmission line infrastructure.
Support the development of engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and technical reports.
Participate in project planning, cost estimating, and technical evaluations for medium to large engineering projects.
Provide technical expertise during the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance phases of transmission line projects.
Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices.
Review engineering deliverables prepared by consultants and contractors to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with engineering standards.
Support project teams by identifying technical risks, resolving design challenges, and contributing to constructability reviews.
Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing within the engineering team.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience, including experience working on transmission line or power infrastructure projects within the electric utility industry.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
Preferred Experience (depending on discipline)
Electrical: grounding design, lightning protection, EMF analysis, AC interference, insulation coordination, and electrical safety studies.
Civil/Structural: transmission tower and foundation design, geotechnical coordination, structural analysis of steel structures, and line routing considerations.
Experience with industry software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, SES-CDEGS, EMTP-RV, or similar engineering tools.
