Job title: Manager, Small Animal Imaging Labs Platform (SAIL)
Role Summary: Lead daily operations of the Small Animal Imaging Laboratory, coordinating multidisciplinary imaging modalities (ultrasound, DXA, X‑ray, MRI, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, optical/fluorescence) while ensuring compliance with animal care, biosafety, and regulatory standards. Manage scheduling, billing, equipment maintenance, and staff training, serving as primary liaison for investigators and external partners.
Expectations: Deliver high‑quality imaging support for internal and external research projects, maintain equipment and facilities at optimal performance, adhere to strict animal welfare and safety protocols, and continuously improve workflow efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate daily lab functions, ensuring all imaging rooms and equipment remain functional and calibrated.
- Schedule imaging sessions, assign personnel, and coordinate multi‑platform projects with other core facilities.
- Process billing for studies, supplies, and services; maintain accurate usage logs and project documentation.
- Perform or supervise animal imaging procedures across all modalities, including anesthesia induction, monitoring, and post‑procedural care.
- Develop and refine imaging protocols in collaboration with research teams, providing training and best‑practice guidance.
- Ensure compliance with institutional regulations (CCAC, CAL, biosafety, radiation safety); support Animal Use Protocol (AUP) preparation, amendments, and renewals.
- Maintain and update SOPs for animal handling, imaging operation, and safety procedures.
- Act as primary contact for investigators, facilitating onboarding, workflow planning, and data delivery.
- Oversee equipment maintenance, vendor coordination, and inventory of consumables.
- Identify and recommend new technologies or workflow improvements.
Required Skills:
- Strong organizational and time‑management abilities, managing multiple concurrent studies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and French.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic data‑management software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to animal welfare and adherence to safety standards.
Required Education & Certifications:
- PhD or MSc in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or related discipline.
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands‑on experience in small animal imaging (MRI, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, ultrasound, DXA, X‑ray, optical/fluorescence).
- Demonstrated experience with animal handling, anesthesia, and preclinical study execution.
- Familiarity with multimodal data acquisition and reconstruction workflows.
- Prior experience in an academic or core facility environment is a strong asset.
