Job title: Linux Systems Engineer
Role Summary:
Linux Systems Engineers provide operations, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement for large‑scale AWS cloud services. The role focuses on maintaining Linux platforms, ensuring security, reliability, and scalability, and driving automation and metric‑driven capacity management.
Expectations:
- Deliver robust, secure, and high‑performance Linux environments that meet global customer demands.
- Own and maintain services with minimal manual intervention, applying operational excellence practices.
- Communicate clearly with cross‑functional teams, translating complex technical issues to stakeholders.
- Act as a self‑starter who thrives in ambiguous, fast‑moving environments and demonstrates customer‑obsessed problem solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and monitor Linux hosts supporting Compute, Storage, Database, IoT, Platform, and Productivity services.
- Troubleshoot and resolve customer and internal incidents, performing root‑cause analysis and providing permanent fixes.
- Keep operating systems, applications, and security patches current while maintaining audit and compliance standards.
- Analyze performance metrics, drive capacity planning, and recommend resource scaling or architectural adjustments.
- Automate repetitive tasks and build tooling to improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with system architects, security, and support teams to design and implement highly available, resilient systems.
- Participate in on‑call rotation and support out‑of‑hours incidents, ensuring minimal service disruption.
Required Skills:
- Proficient in Linux system administration (Red Hat, Ubuntu, or similar).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities with root‑cause analysis.
- Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, routing, firewall, VPN, VPC.
- Experience with shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell) and automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform).
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, ELK) and capacity planning.
- Understanding of secure system design, including identity, access management and encryption.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with engineers and customers.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and a high degree of initiative.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certifications (preferred): AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC‑1), or related.
