Job Description
Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer Role Summary: A 6‑month contract (37.5 hrs/week) embedded software engineer for a UK defence and civilian technology consultancy. The role is hybrid (3 days on site) and requires a current Security Clearance (SC). The engineer will design, code, test, and deliver real‑time embedded systems for electronic warfare, communications, and sensor projects. Expectations: - Maintain high‑performance, low‑latency real‑time code. - Apply emerging technologies to enhance project outcomes. - Deliver secure, reliable software that meets stringent defence standards. Key Responsibilities: - Design and implement embedded software in C/C++ for real‑time systems. - Develop and maintain embedded Linux platforms and associated drivers. - Write and execute unit, integration, and system‑level tests. - Build continuous integration (CI) pipelines and manage version control. - Collaborate with product and hardware teams on array processing, communications, and sensor system integration. Required Skills: - Strong C/C++ programming for embedded environments. - Embedded Linux development and kernel module knowledge. - Unit and system testing expertise. - Familiarity with DevOps tools (Git, Jenkins, CI/CD workflows). - Understanding of modern System‑on‑Chip (SoC) architectures. - Ability to work with real‑time operating systems (RTOS) and low‑latency designs. Optional / Preferred Skills: - Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithm design. - MATLAB/Simulink modelling of algorithms. - FPGA firmware development (VHDL/Verilog). - Software‑Defined Radio (SDR) platform knowledge. - Knowledge of electronic warfare concepts.
