The AI Engineer, Digital Transformation is a new role that has been created to advance the firm's AI and digital capabilities. We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join our new Digital Transformation team focused on developing and implementing artificial intelligence solutions to enhance our audit, tax and advisory services while improving operational efficiency across the organization.

For Schneider Downs to be successful in achieving its Vision 2030 goals, the AI Engineer, Digital Transformation will play a significant role in implementing the right AI and digital solutions and leading significant change within the organization, in partnership with the firm's Digital Transformation team, the ICS (IT) team and the AI Workgroup. This role will be focused on client and employee facing technologies and solutions, with the goal of improving efficiencies and creating a best-in-class experience for our clients and employees leveraging technology. The AI Engineer, Digital Transformation will leverage AI and digital technology to save money, scale our client facing work, transform our employee and client experience, and help the company grow.

Schneider Downs has embraced the hybrid work model, so this role will have flexibility working from home, as well as in the office.

What You'll Do

AI Solution Development:

Design, develop and deploy AI/ML models to automate routine professional services workflows and processes, perform data analysis and risk assessment workflows
Create intelligent document processing systems for financial statements, tax documents, audit workpapers, client contracts, project proposals, etc.
Leverage predictive models to analyze financial data, industry trends and client specific risk factors to identify high-risk accounts or transactions, detect anomalies and potential fraud, forecast tax liabilities and suggest optimal tax strategies, forecast cash flow and profitability, model business scenarios and analyze client behavior and engagement to predict churn and identify cross-sell opportunities
Develop natural language processing solutions for financial analysis, contract analysis, report writing and client communication

Technical Implementation:

Collaborate with accounting professionals to identify automation opportunities and translate business requirements into technical solutions
Integrate AI systems with existing accounting software (ERP systems, audit platforms, tax preparation software, etc.)
Perform prompt engineering, conduct agentic AI development, and build training models
Ensure AI models meet regulatory compliance requirements and professional standards
Implement and abide by robust data governance and security protocols for sensitive financial information

Innovation and Strategy:

Research emerging AI technologies and evaluate their potential applications in accounting and financial services
Lead proof-of-concept projects and pilot programs for new AI initiatives
Provide technical guidance to firm employees on AI tools and capabilities
Leverage an architect's mindset while evaluating vended solutions and guiding build vs buy analyses

What You'll Need

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML or related technical field
Minimum of five years of experience as a developer or data scientist
Minimum of two years of experience developing and deploying AI solutions in a professional environment
Proficiency in Python, R or similar programming languages
Experience with the Microsoft Azure cloud tech stack (Azure AI, Azure ML, Copilot, Copilot Studio, Fabric, PowerBI, Power Automate, Azure OpenAI Service, etc.)
Experience with an ML frameworks and tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, GitHub, etc.) and with major GenAI core models (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.)
Experience integrating with Generative AI LLMs via API
Strong background in data engineering, ETL processes and database management
Knowledge of API development and system integration

Preferred:

Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML or related technical field
Experience with robotic process automation (RPA) platforms
