Infrastructure Project Manager (Windows Server upgrade project) - London - 6 month contract (Inside IR35)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Project/Programme Manager to take ownership of a business-critical Windows Server life cycle upgrade programme, migrating the server estate to the latest supported operating systems. The programme is already in flight, and we require a skilled leader to step in, take the reins, and drive successful completion. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience managing large-scale server life cycle or infrastructure refresh programmes, with the ability to coordinate technical resources, maintain pace, and ensure milestones are met. You'll need a blend of programme-level oversight and hands-on project delivery skills to ensure outcomes are delivered to scope, budget, and schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Assume day-to-day ownership of the Windows Server migration programme, ensuring smooth handover and continuity.
Oversee the migration of the existing server estate to new, fully supported operating systems, ensuring minimal business disruption.
Manage dependencies, risks, and resource allocation across multiple workstreams.
Coordinate with internal technical teams, business stakeholders, and external partners to keep delivery on track.
Track and report progress to governance boards and senior stakeholders, ensuring transparency and timely decision-making.
Maintain focus on agreed deliverables, keeping the programme on time and within budget.
Implement and maintain effective RAID management and change control processes.
Ensure quality assurance, testing, and acceptance criteria are met before go-live.
Drive resolution of blockers and escalations, keeping momentum in a fast-paced environment.
Coordinate the service transition process, ensuring all workloads follow appropriate governance, service acceptance, and operational readiness requirements as part of go-live.
Essential Skills & Experience
Demonstrable experience delivering infrastructure life cycle and OS migration projects in enterprise environments.
Proven track record of completing large-scale Windows Server migrations or similar infrastructure upgrades.
Strong resource management experience, ensuring the right skills are available at the right time.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, from technical engineers to C-suite.
Strong understanding of infrastructure environments, dependencies, and risks in OS upgrade programmes.
Experience stepping into in-flight projects and quickly establishing control and direction.
Ability to balance programme oversight with hands-on project delivery where required.
Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-change delivery environments.
Familiarity with hybrid cloud and modern datacentre environments.
Experience in regulated or large-scale enterprise organisations.
