HOURS AND COMPENSATION:

The internship will be a minimum 20 hours and up to 40 hours per week, from approximately June-August. This position will be onsite and depending on internship selected for, some nights and weekends may be required . The pay rate is $20.23-$22.59 per hour.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of The Flock internship is to inspire interns to see themselves as future leaders in local government by providing meaningful and hands-on experiences that highlight the impact and purpose of public service.

Duties And Responsibilities

Active Transportation (focus on Project Management and Civil Engineering):

Support projects aimed at improving pedestrian, bicycle, and transit connectivity in the City of Rochester.
Assist in conducting research on best practices, gathering and analyzing data, and engaging with stakeholders to enhance accessibility and mobility.
Contribute to mapping efforts, outreach activities, and reporting preparation for the planning and implementation of wayfinding strategies.
Shadow and oversee the urban innovation in downtown Rochester in partnership with Destination Medical Center.

Water:

Assist with planning for and ensuring safe drinking water for the community via reviewing and designing water facilities.
Perform lead service record analysis.
Tour water and electric facilities, and shadow employees in the field.
Assist with various projects at RPU.

Electric & Power Delivery

Assist a diverse work group of electrical and civil engineers with the design, testing, and as-built process for Rochester Electrical and Water Utility Systems.
Assist with technical work of the Power Delivery division at RPU, including asset mapping, maintaining maintenance programs, and data analysis.
Specific projects will be based on needs and candidates area of interest. Examples could include: developing mobile data collection applications, field inspections and testing, use of GIS mapping systems.

Public Works:

Interns will be selected to a project team for various Engineering Capital Improvement Plan initiatives, such as stormwater replacement, sidewalk improvement project, and street reconstruction projects.
Supports field operations across various construction projects, including assisting construction and material inspectors, and surveyors.
Assist in inspecting City sidewalks, trails, and Flood Control Management program.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

18 years of age or older
Pursuing post-secondary education in engineering, GIS, math, science, or a closely related field.
Ability to travel to multiple locations within the City of Rochester, MN.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals from a variety of racial, geographic, and financial backgrounds.
Proficiency in another language (Bilingual or Multilingual).
Experience with Microsoft Office products.
