Job Description – IT Infrastructure Engineer (Backup Operations)

Location: Sheffield (Hybrid)

Rate: £350 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 6 months initially

Overview

We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineering Professional to join a large enterprise Backup Operations team, supporting internal IT and Cloud Services. The role involves maintaining and operating a large-scale backup environment using Dell EMC Networker, ensuring service continuity, and contributing to the wider technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities

Provide operational support for enterprise backup and recovery systems.
Ensure all backup operational procedures are maintained, updated, and followed.
Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
Participate in technical peer reviews and ensure deliverables align with quality and security standards.
Contribute to the design and implementation of backup components within wider infrastructure projects.
Collaborate with internal teams and partners to maintain system reliability and improve efficiency.
Participate in an on-call rota and provide out-of-hours support as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Strong knowledge of backup and recovery principles.
In-depth experience with EMC Networker.
Working knowledge of Data Domain or tape-based backup systems.
Practical experience with Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
Experience in problem-solving, performance analysis, and root cause investigation.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deliver in demanding environments.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.

Desirable

Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.
Understanding of cloud-based backup integrations and modern infrastructure platforms.
Awareness of enterprise-level standards and security practices.
