Sr. Data Project Manager

Apex Systems is a global technology services firm that has an opening for a Sr. Data Project Manager with our enterprise client, a Top 5 Bank. This role is part of the Enterprise Technology organization, supporting critical data modernization initiatives. The successful candidate will lead complex data migration projects, manage financial governance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver enterprise-scale solutions.

This 6–12 month hybrid contract offers the chance to work on cutting-edge cloud and data technologies, including Azure and Databricks, while driving measurable impact for one of Canada’s leading financial institutions.

Target Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 6–12 months (with potential to extend)

Remote/Hybrid: 1–2 days per week onsite

Office Location: Downtown Toronto, ON

Work Schedule: 37.5 hours/week, Monday–Friday

Job Overview

The Sr. Data Project Manager will oversee enterprise-level data initiatives, including the migration of on-premise data environments to Azure cloud using Databricks. This is not a lift-and-shift migration—it requires strategic planning, configuration, and alignment of data sources and consumers. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical acumen, financial management expertise, and the ability to bridge business and technology stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end delivery of data modernization projects within Enterprise Technology.
Manage complex workstreams involving cloud migration, data governance, and security compliance (Data Pattern 5).
Collaborate with infrastructure and engineering teams to ensure successful implementation of Azure and Databricks solutions.
Oversee project financials, including forecasting, accruals, variance analysis, and overhead management for budgets ranging from $100K to $80M.
Engage with business stakeholders to align technical solutions with organizational objectives.
Ensure adherence to compliance, encryption, and data-sharing standards across all initiatives.
Provide clear reporting on project status, risks, and dependencies to senior leadership.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in Project Management within technology environments, preferably in data and cloud programs.
Proven track record managing enterprise-scale data migration projects (Azure, Databricks experience strongly preferred).
Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies, data security, and governance frameworks.
Ability to translate technical concepts for business stakeholders and drive alignment across teams.
Expertise in financial governance for large-scale programs (forecasting, burn tracking, overhead management).
Familiarity with AI/ML initiatives and data analytics environments is an asset.
PMP or equivalent certification preferred.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
