Job Specifications
Matchbox Consulting Group is on the hunt for an Engineer specializing in SCADA systems design to support a major utility’s transmission substation and generation projects.
Contract: 1 year
Overview
This role provides engineering design, configuration, testing, and technical support for SCADA systems at transmission substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV. The Engineer applies practical and theoretical engineering knowledge to deliver high-quality solutions for low to medium-complexity projects, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, test, and troubleshoot SCADA systems for transmission and generation facilities.
Work with GE RTUs including D400, D20, D200, D25, and IBOX.
Develop SCADA design packages, device point assignments, specifications, test plans, and estimates.
Configure and program RTUs, gateways, HMIs, switches/routers, and IEDs.
Prepare engineering reports, calculations, proposals, hazard logs, and procurement documents.
Act as Professional of Record (PoR) and deliver signed/sealed engineering work.
Support field installation, testing, commissioning, and EGBC-required field reviews.
Conduct lab validation and pre-commissioning testing.
Provide technical leadership on multidisciplinary capital projects.
Review designs for compliance with standards and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to solve engineering challenges and maintain project quality, cost, and schedule.
Core Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering from an institute accredited by EGBC.
P.Eng and valid Permit to Practice (P2P).
Minimum four years of experience in a relevant engineering field.
Proficiency with CAD systems, industry design/analysis software, and MS Office.
Intermediate English communication skills.
Ability to interpret specifications, perform engineering analysis, and support construction quality control.
Must be able to work on a hybrid schedule with regular attendance at the Edmonds office.
Must Haves
Degree in Electrical Engineering from an institute accredited by the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
P.eng and valid P2P
Must be able to come to office on hybrid basis.
Nice to Haves
Experience with DNP3, MODBUS, networking protocols, Cyber Security, and M2M networking applications is desired.
Experience with programming of GE Remote Terminal Units.
Knowledge of NERC standards is desired.
Utility experience.
