What is the opportunity?

The Enterprise Chief Controls Office (ECCO) is a centralized first line of defense group with the goal of embedding a culture of risk ownership and operational excellence by elevating the control environment and driving consistency and quality of risk practices.

The Enterprise Control Testing (ECT) team serves as RBC’s central control testing function. As the Enterprise central control testing team, ECT acts on behalf of the 1LOD (first line of defense) Control Owner and is responsible for performing control assurance activities in accordance with RBC’s Internal Controls Testing Policy and Standards (ICMP and ICMS). ECT supports in monitoring RBC internal controls effectiveness by:

Undertaking control assurance activities (i.e. design effectiveness and/or operating effectiveness assessments) and advising 1LOD partners on addressing any gaps
Maintain an enterprise view of the effectiveness of key controls across RBC and reporting to GRM, Compliance and other stakeholders on the state of controls environment

In addition to execution of control testing activities, ECT continues to evolve the control testing function. ECT will leverage data, automation and scale to enhance efficiency, strengthen 1LOD control assurance and drive continuous improvement in RBC’s control environment.

We are seeking a Strategy Business Analyst Intern with strategic and analytical acumen who can support in executing on strategic initiatives and team enablement activities.

What will you do?

The Strategy Business Analyst Intern will support the Enterprise Control Testing (ECT) team in refining the ECT strategy and delivering on key strategic initiatives, including but not

limited to: supporting the Enterprise control testing consolidation, performing strategic research/analyses to drive insights and recommendations, and developing communication and organize team events to enable the Enterprise Control Testing team

Key activities include:

Perform research and analyses to inform strategy development and initiative execution
Support in answering strategic questions from senior executives, including developing recommendations supported by data and facts
Provide execution support, including for the consolidation of control testing functions (e.g. develop change management communication, analyses to support role design)
Contribute to executive level presentations and analyses, ability to articulate a comprehensive story while catering the messages/content for the audience
Support in the monthly update of the Enterprise Control Testing (ECT) scorecard and dashboard
Support in team enablement activities, including team communication, developing townhall presentations
Support in program/project management of key initiatives, including gather status information/data from teams, support in developing status updates and address any risks/issues that may arise
Complete any additional responsibilities as needed to support ECT

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on commerce, business, economics, accounting or engineering
Execution experience and ability to partner with internal stakeholders to implement a strategy and deliver on key initiative milestones
Creative and analytical thinker and problem solver who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
Interest and openness to learning and cultivating skills
Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

Nice to Have:

Previous business experience (internship, etc.) in strategy or consulting roles, ideally within banking/financial services
Previous experience in a banking/financial services operations centres or risk management function
