Job Title: Sr Accounting Consultant- Clinical Trials

Location: Hybrid Orange County, Open to San Diego and LA candidates who can come in 1-2 times a month.

Assignment Type: 6 months with potential to extend

Compensation: $50–$70/hr

Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Position Overview

A late-stage biotechnology company headquartered in Orange County, CA is seeking a Senior Clinical Trials Accountant to join their accounting team on a consulting basis. This position plays a key role in supporting the financial oversight of clinical development programs, with a strong emphasis on accruals, forecasting, and cross-functional collaboration with Clinical Operations and Finance.

This role offers exposure to highly innovative science and provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing life sciences company.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and prepare clinical trial accruals and ensure accurate expense recognition.
Develop and maintain trial-level expense forecasts in partnership with project teams.
Collaborate closely with Clinical Operations, FP&A, and Accounting to support trial planning and financial reporting.
Support month-end and quarter-end close activities related to clinical programs.
Provide variance analysis, reconciliations, and trial-level reporting packages.
Help strengthen internal processes and ensure compliance with company accounting policies.
Interpret trial budgets and protocols to align with appropriate accounting treatment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment supporting clinical trials.
Hands-on experience with clinical trial accruals and forecasting required.
Familiarity with trial-related financial systems (e.g., EDC platforms, cost management tools, or similar) strongly preferred.
Strong analytical and Excel skills; ability to interpret and present large sets of data.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with both finance and operations teams.
