Key Responsibilities Purpose of the role
The Research department has a key role in the ongoing success story for Immunocore, with a mission to ensure the sustained delivery of drug candidates based on strong science that have high potential for addressing the unmet medical needs of patients with cancer, autoimmune and chronic infectious diseases.
Research at Immunocore is highly dynamic, pivoting rapidly as new data emerges. The roles of both Research Operations and Programme Management are to support scientists working within the organisation to stay focused, deliver impactful science and remain productive in the face of these rapidly changing requirements.
The placement aims to deliver improvements in research productivity and operational effectiveness by:
Implementing targeted process enhancements in project management and data analysis
Developing and piloting new tools for tracking research metrics and project outcomes
Facilitating cross-functional collaboration to accelerate decision-making and remove operational bottlenecks.
Key Responsibilities
Reflecting the dynamic nature of work in Research at Immunocore, projects will be assigned based on evolving business need, key responsibilities may include:
Supporting preparation and delivery of leadership team strategy offsites
Gathering & analysing competitive benchmark data on comparable organisations to inform strategic decisions
Providing functional SCRUM master support for functional teams e.g. Proteomics
Providing project management support for Research programmes
Leading the design, implementation and maintenance of a Research programme database
Creating and analysing Research productivity dashboards to visualise research productivity across key metrics
Design, implementation and management of a resource allocation tracking tool
Assessing whether agile tools and principles can be applied to improve productivity in biotech research to enhance team collaboration and individual productivity
Participating as a core team member on non-molecular projects of strategic importance including programme management, and performing supplier/ competitor reviews
Supporting key aspects of our biosample management operating model design & implementation
You will gain exposure to diverse teams and business functions, developing skills in project management, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
Education & Qualifications
We are looking for a dynamic undergraduate in a scientific discipline, studying towards a degree with a sandwich year (and therefore not yet graduated at the start of this placement) who is eager to apply their knowledge beyond the lab and bring fresh perspectives to our team.

Review and synthesise complex topics
Communicate findings via presentations, seminars, and posters to large audiences
Engage with all groups across Research
Facilitate working sessions to drive improvement initiatives
Plan, deliver, and present meetings to diverse teams
Track and follow up on project activities
Analyse qualitative and quantitative datasets.
Tools in which you will strengthen your working knowledge include:
MS Office applications including Excel (basic data handling & analysis), Visio (process mapping), PowerPoint (structuring and communicating information)
Work management and productivity tools such as Trello and SmartSheets
Depending on candidate, there is the opportunity to gain experience with more advanced data analysis coding and visualisation tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI.
The placement provides a strong foundation for future roles in research operations, programme management, or related fields with previous holders going on to roles at consultancy firms and further study.
