Programme Manager – Legacy Modernisation (Junior-Medior)
Role Overview
The Programme Manager is responsible for the strategic coordination and management of the team’s activities, ensuring the successful execution of IT legacy modernisation initiatives across all Business Units (BUs). This role acts as the central point of contact for all modernisation activities, overseeing plan development, progress monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and reporting to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, organise, and manage the team, fostering collaboration and high performance.
Coordinate the creation, maintenance, and execution of the IT modernisation roadmap in partnership with BU teams.
Oversee the quarterly status checks with BU teams, ensuring accurate tracking of plan versus actual progress.
Facilitate monthly programme board meetings by preparing, consolidating, and presenting progress reports.
Organise and support the three-monthly steering committee (SteerCo) with L3 management and the VP of IT, providing clear updates and recommendations.
Ensure all application and roadmap data is effectively managed in the central Excel file and leveraged for PowerBI reporting.
Monitor and report on key KPIs, including:
Number of applications remaining on mainframe and AS400
Alignment with Enterprise Architecture (EA) standards
Technical debt score
Supportability score
Drive continuous improvement in modernisation activities by analysing KPI trends and collaborating with BU teams to address areas of concern.
Champion adherence to established processes, standards, and best practices across all modernisation efforts.
Act as the main escalation point for risks, issues, or dependencies impacting programme delivery.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience in programme or project management, preferably within IT transformation or legacy modernisation programmes.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at all organisational levels, including senior leadership.
Excellent organisational and analytical skills, with experience in managing complex, cross-functional initiatives.
Familiarity with IT portfolio management, technical debt concepts, and the use of KPIs to measure progress.
Experience with reporting tools such as Excel and PowerBI.
Understanding of mainframe, AS400, Java applications, and cloud technologies is highly desirable.
Relevant certifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, MSP) are an advantage.
Candidate will report to the Head of the team and are expected to work collaboratively with BU teams, the wider IT organisation, and senior leadership to ensure the success of the legacy modernisation programme.
