Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

2 days per week | Hybrid | Manchester City Centre

About the Client

Our client is a fast-growing legal technology company based in Manchester city center. Operating at the intersection of law, data, and software, the business is entering a critical scale-up phase and preparing for a significant financial milestone.

We are exclusively supporting them in the search for a high-calibre Fractional CFO to provide senior financial leadership on a part-time basis.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CFO or Fractional CFO who enjoys working closely with founders, building finance functions, and preparing businesses for major financial events.

The role is hands-on and delivery-focused, with a strong emphasis on financial modelling, process design, and financial event readiness.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

Act as a senior financial partner to the CEO and leadership team
Translate business strategy into robust financial plans and forecasts
Provide clear financial insight to support commercial and operational decisions

Financial Modelling & Forecasting

Build and maintain complex financial models, including multi-year forecasts, cashflow models, and scenario analysis
Support valuation, fundraising, and investor discussions with high-quality financial modelling
Challenge assumptions and provide sensitivity analysis

Financial Event Preparation

Lead financial preparation for a major financial event (e.g. fundraising, acquisition, or exit)
Prepare investor-ready financial materials and data rooms
Manage relationships with external advisors, including corporate finance, legal, audit, and investors

Process, Controls & Governance

Design and implement scalable financial processes and procedures
Improve management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting frameworks
Strengthen financial controls and ensure statutory and tax compliance
Establish clear financial governance suitable for a scaling technology business

Stakeholder & Team Engagement

Work with internal finance resources and external accountants/bookkeepers
Support and educate non-financial stakeholders on financial best practice
Communicate complex financial matters in a clear, pragmatic way

Candidate Profile

Essential Experience

Proven experience as a CFO or Fractional CFO within a scaling SME or technology business
Advanced financial modelling capability
Direct experience supporting at least one financial event (fundraise, M&A, or exit)
Strong track record of designing and embedding finance processes and procedures
Comfortable operating in fast-paced, founder-led environments

Desirable Experience

Background in legal tech, SaaS, or professional services
Experience working with VC or private equity-backed businesses
Previous engagement with investor relations and board-level reporting

Working Pattern & Location

2 days per week
Hybrid working model with regular on-site presence in Manchester city centre
Flexibility on working days, aligned with business requirements

Contract Details

Fractional / contract engagement
Competitive day rate, dependent on experience
