Operations + Infrastructure
Our Operations & Infrastructure technology organization builds, operates, and maintains best-in-class IT infrastructure services that are secure, scalable, and continuously available.
As a Systems Engineer Intern, you will support one of two teams within our larger Operations & Infrastructure technology organization at Visa: Developer Experience or Infrastructure Reliability Engineering.
Developer Experience
As an intern on the Developer Experience team, you will deliver Host Software Configuration Management support to software development teams across various regions within a mainframe environment. Responsibilities include compiling, migrating, and installing source code across different environments using Endevor and the SLiMS version control system for the TPF platform. In addition, this position will contribute to the mainframe modernization initiative by supporting development teams as they transition to DevOps practices and adopt new distributed toolsets, as well as manage the administration of new applications integrated into the mainframe pipeline.
Essential Functions:
Deliver 1st level support for environment set-up and user help, access, and issue resolution
Provide prompt and courteous service to clients via phone and e-mail
Contribute information to project plans and meet stated deadlines
Compose clear documentation, reports, and Excel spreadsheets; prepare Power Point slides and give informational presentations
Awareness of IBM mainframe technologies (i.e. MVS, JCL, REXX, CLIST, ISPF dialogs)
Fully utilize all functions of e-mail
Assist with gathering and organizing metrics, as well as compiling audit reports
Troubleshoot errors with primary toolset and act as a point of contact with systems support
Infrastructure Reliability Engineering
On the Infrastructure Reliability Engineering team, we are looking for interns with a dedicated interest in infrastructure storage engineering. You will be an integral part of a global infrastructure team, providing follow-the-sun support to Visa’s systems worldwide.
This Systems Engineer intern position is within the Storage Operations Team and falls under Global Systems Support. This position will support, certify, and document storage and backup infrastructure, as well as serve as a Level 2 escalation point for existing infrastructure. This position is expected to interact with our Systems, Database, Engineering, Asset Management, Product Development, Operations, and Audit and Risk teams, as well as various other groups within Technology. This role requires strong communication and analytical skills.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the ongoing maintenance, security, and availability of Storage and SAN infrastructure based on business requirements, and adhering to tight operational, security, and procedural models
Automate infrastructure tasks to reduce repetitive or time-consuming processes, utilizing SRE principles/practices and an Infrastructure-as-Code methodology
Complex provisioning, advanced maintenance, data replication, disaster recovery, data migration, and documentation for our Open Systems Storage and Backup environments
Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise to support complex Storage & Backup devices, including SAN, NAS, and Backup solutions across all tiers (under minimal supervision)
Skills You Bring:
Experience working in an infrastructure support role and/or a keen interest in learning the role of an infrastructure support engineer in the storage realm
An interest in scripting/coding for infrastructure automation
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, CIS/MIS, Cybersecurity, or a related field, graduating December 2026-August 2027.
Preferred Qualifications
Foundational programing knowledge (Python, Golang, BASH, COBOL, Visual Basic, Java, C/C++, YAML, or similar technology)
Familiarity with Software Configuration Management best practices and standards, as well as Software Development Lifecycl
