Job Title
Financial Analyst – Financial Modelling (Defence)
Contract: Outside IR35
Location: UK (hybrid / on-site as required)
Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience
Role Overview
We are seeking a Financial Analyst with strong financial modelling capability to support defence-related programmes and investment decisions. This role focuses on developing robust, transparent financial models to assess capital and operational investment options across complex, safety-critical environments.
The role will support decision-makers by providing clear insight into affordability, return on investment, and value for money across multiple adoption and rollout pathways. It is well suited to an analyst with experience in defence, engineering, infrastructure, or other regulated sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Modelling and Analysis
Develop detailed Capex and Opex cost models across multiple adoption pathways, including rollout by:
Ground Support Equipment (GSE) type
Platform or asset type
Location or station
Model phased and comparative deployment scenarios to support affordability and investment planning.
Return on Investment and Benefits Modelling
Build ROI scenarios incorporating both direct and indirect benefits, including:
Manpower and productivity savings
Improved operational efficiency
Reduced equipment loss and downtime
Increased availability and operational readiness
Quantify avoided costs and long-term financial benefits to support robust business cases.
Investment and Decision Support
Produce a balanced investment view that clearly presents costs, benefits, assumptions, and risks.
Support decision-making by comparing alternative options using consistent and auditable financial logic.
Ensure models are transparent, defensible, and suitable for use in regulated and assurance-led environments.
Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting
Work with technical, operational, and commercial stakeholders to validate assumptions and inputs.
Translate complex financial outputs into clear insights for non-financial audiences.
Maintain clear documentation and version control for all models and analysis.
Skills and Experience
Essential
Proven experience in financial modelling, investment appraisal, or cost analysis.
Strong Excel capability, including complex formulas and scenario modelling.
Experience working on Capex / Opex analysis and lifecycle costing.
Ability to structure problems and work with incomplete or evolving data.
Experience supporting decision-making in complex organisations.
Desirable
Experience in defence, aerospace, engineering, infrastructure, or other regulated sectors.
Exposure to concepts such as ROI, cost-benefit analysis, total cost of ownership, or value-for-money frameworks.
Experience supporting business cases, bids, or investment decisions.
Background in consulting or project-based delivery environments.

Comfortable challenging assumptions using data and evidence.
Able to communicate financial insight clearly and concisely.
Comfortable operating in secure or safety-critical environments.
