Position: Senior Back End - Software Developer
Duration: 1 Year assignment (contract)
Client Location: Toronto (Onsite: 7.25 hours/day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday)
Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement – B2B (Incorporated Entities Only)

This position is provisionally Onsite, requiring 7.25 hours per calendar day between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (excluding breaks). Conditions may change based on organizational requirements and at the discretion of the Hiring Manager.
About the Engagement
We are seeking an experienced Senior Back End – Software Developer to manage server-side logic and data interchange between backend systems and users within a large, integrated Mainframe IMS DB/DC environment. The role includes translating technical system specifications into working, tested applications; designing and maintaining databases; and resolving technical issues across implementation, conversion, and migration activities. You’ll collaborate across the SDLC with IT professionals to deliver stable, performant applications in accordance with OPS policies and standards.
Scope
The Senior Back End – Software Developer will:
Manage server-side logic, database definition/maintenance, and performance & responsiveness to front-end requests.
Translate technical system specifications into tested, working applications.
Develop detailed programming specifications; write/generate code; compile data-driven programs; maintain and conduct unit tests.
Assignment Deliverables
Design, code, test, debug, and document backend services and mainframe components (IMS DB/DC Full Function and FASTPATH).
Perform IMS Database Re-organization, Unload/Reload, and Recovery Control for hierarchical databases (IMS DB, VSAM).
Build and maintain job schedules, scripts, and recovery plans (e.g., CA Scheduling, MVS File‑Aid, MVS Abend‑Aid).
Expertise Required
Must Have:
10+ years of experience designing and developing Mainframe applications in large integrated IMS DB/DC environments.
Strong expertise in hierarchical database technologies (IMS DB, VSAM) including reorganization, unload/reload, and recovery control.
Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, Assembly, TSO/ISPF, BTS, Clist, REXX within the last 5 years.
Experience with CA Scheduling, MVS File-Aid, MVS Abend-Aid tools.
Hands-on experience with CA Telon, IBM ACB/BDB/PSB generation.
Nice to Have:
Knowledge of Internet-ready applications and Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodologies.
Familiarity with middleware and gateways integration.
Understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliance.
Knowledge of OPS architecture, policies, and standards or similar large enterprise environments.
