Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four or more recent years of hands-on experience in data network design & management utilizing Cisco router/switches, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs and implementation in a multi-site environment.
Demonstrated experience in the implementation, configuration and administration of firewalls, wireless networks and broadband services.
Experience with Cisco Unified Wireless including configuration of wireless LAN controllers is desirable.
Demonstrated PC proficiency
Demonstrated strong project management skills.
Possessing working technical knowledge of current telecommunications practices, protocols, and principles.
Demonstrated experience with current and legacy voice, data and video technologies including data/voice/video communications, video conferencing, audio conferencing, wireless networking, cell phones, voice over IP (VoIP), and telephone switch operations is desirable.
Experience with radio communications preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrated experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Credentials/Licenses/Certifications -
Must have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process) and possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.
CCNA, CCNE, CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications desirable.
Cisco certification highly desirable.
Computer certification(s) in related areas desirable.
Essential Functions
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
Provides Network and Telecommunications System Administration.
Installs, configures, and maintains the Park District data and voice networking systems including data/voice/video/cellular services for the purpose of meeting district distributed processing requirements.
Monitors all networks and central telecommunication system for maximum availability and performance.
Administers and manages network security, especially firewalls and resource monitoring.
Performs performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources.
Creates and maintains documentation for network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records for all implemented networks as well as for the central phone system.
Assesses malfunctions of network hardware and/or software applications and telecommunication systems and works towards quick problem resolution.
Prepares written materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
Performs routine backups and archival of system configuration to assist with disaster recovery.
Establishes and manages interconnections between other networks/entities, i.e., for Rangers.
Works with Systems Administration Lead Technician to implement and maintain Park District network security policies Works with Systems Administration Lead Technician and Building Trades division to coordinate the implementation of new, and changes to current networking infrastructure (both wired and wireless) throughout the park district
Researches the latest technology as it applies to the current and future Park District data/voice/video infrastructure.
Continually monitors new trends/technologies in data and voice systems including video conferencing.
Evaluates vendor proposals and vendor solutions.
Suggests new technologies for potential use at the park district.
Meets with other departments to evaluate their needs and how those fit in the overall park system.
Trains users and associates on networking, phones (including cellular/smartphones), voicemail and video conferencing.
Consults with outside vendors on all issues related to telecommunications, computers, hardware, software, and related matters in a timely and professional manner.
Provides on-call technical support, including weekends and evenings.
Other Functions
Informs the Systems Administration Lead Technician of significant issues and of new technologies to be considered.
Assists in maintaining the operating system and security software utilized on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges.
Installs coordinates the installation of computers, network equipment, phones and cabling for the purpose of providing voice, video and data transmission services.
Develops (as necessary), coordinates and implements safety related matters for assigned area(s) and personnel, such as staff training on policy and procedure enforce
