Akkodis is seeking a Senior Data Analyst -Data Governance Specialist with a client in Houston TX 77002-Hybrid for 12-months contract.

Title: Senior Data Analyst -Data Governance Specialist

Location: Houston, TX 77002- 4 days onsite, 1 day remote

Contract: 12-month contract

Pay Range: $70/hr. -$75/hr. (The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors)

Job Description

The Data Governance Specialist supports the development, execution, and ongoing improvement of the organizations data governance framework. This role works across business, technical, and compliance teams to help ensure data is high quality, protected, compliant, and used effectively, serving as a bridge between stakeholders while maturing governance processes, metadata, quality rules, lineage, and access practices.

Job Responsibilities

Data Governance Strategy & Framework

Support the development and maintenance of DG policies, standards, and procedures.
Contribute to designing scalable governance operating models (centralized/federated/hybrid).
Participate in DG KPI tracking, assessments, and continuous improvement efforts.

Data Quality Management

Assist in defining DQ rules, metrics, and thresholds with business SMEs.
Help identify and document Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
Coordinate DQ issue tracking, initial triage, and root cause analysis with engineering.

Metadata, Lineage & Catalog Management

Maintain metadata standards and ensure consistent application across platforms.
Perform Atlan catalog updates (glossary terms, owners, classifications, tags).
Contribute to lineage documentation; partner with engineering on automated lineage.

Data Ownership & Stewardship

Support Data Owners and Stewards through metadata updates, documentation, and workflows.
Participate in stewardship committees and cross functional alignment discussions.

Policy, Controls & Compliance

Assist in applying data retention, access, privacy, and risk control requirements.
Contribute to evidence gathering for audits and compliance reviews.
Apply data classification guidelines and verify metadata accuracy.

Master & Reference Data Governance

Support governance of master data domains and documentation.
Assist with reference data lifecycle management and alignment across systems.

Data Access & Security Governance

Help maintain data classification tagging and access controls.
Support entitlement reviews and partner with Security/IT on routine access checks.

Technology & Tools Enablement

Perform hands on work in Atlan (metadata, glossary, lineage) and Monte Carlo (DQ rules, monitors).
Help maintain governance dashboards and workflow automations.
Support tool adoption through documentation and training support.

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

Assist with DG onboarding, education sessions, and communications.
Translate technical data governance details into business friendly content.
Contribute to SharePoint governance content updates.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Data Analytics, or related field.
3-6 years of experience in data governance, metadata, DQ, analytics, or data management.
Strong foundational understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage, and compliance.
Experience with Atlan, Monte Carlo, or similar DG/DQ platforms preferred.
Solid SQL and BI skills (Power BI, Looker, Tableau).
Strong communication and stakeholder coordination capability.
