Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Engineering Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

This role is offered on a 12 month fixed term contract.

Role purpose: To deliver the survey activities required for construction by carrying out accurate setting‑out, data capture, and verification tasks. As a core member of the Engineering Surveying team, the role provides the primary survey support to site teams, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required tolerances.

What you'll be doing

The Successful Candidate Will

Carry out site surveys including control, topographic work, setting‑out and construction-stage checks.
Collect, process, and issue survey data in agreed formats, ensuring required tolerances are achieved.
Produce accurate as‑built records, drawings, and models using approved survey software.
Ensure correct use, care, and security of survey equipment, including daily checks and defect reporting.
Maintain orderly survey data, ensuring files are stored, backed up, and version‑controlled in line with project requirements.
Perform QA checks on design information prior to construction to verify suitability and accuracy.
Support site engineers with information taken from design models, schedules, and drawings.
Carry out verification surveys at key stages to confirm dimensional compliance.
Complete QA documentation and comply with ITP / hold‑point checks as required.
Identify hazards, follow safe systems of work, deliver TBS, and raise observation cards to support a strong safety culture.
Maintain survey consumables and support equipment inventory management (prisms, batteries, tripods, targets, stakes, etc.).
Liaise with senior surveyors, discipline teams, and site personnel to understand survey requirements and deliver work to programme.
Carry out survey-related calculations such as volumetrics, clash checks, deformation/settlement analysis, and structural dimensional checks to support other disciplines.

Who we're looking for

The following experience/qualifications are essential: -

Previous experience in surveying, with strong exposure to civil engineering and/or mechanical engineering environments.
Proficient in IT applications and survey‑specific software (e.g. 3DR, N4CE, Infinity, SiteScan).
Knowledge of settlement monitoring systems, methodologies, and associated technologies.
Understanding of geodetic principles and requirements for construction project delivery.
Familiarity with modern survey equipment, GNSS networks, and emerging survey technologies.
Effective communication, coordination, and team‑building skills.
Demonstrated ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and deliver outputs to programme.
Strong commitment to Health & Safety and safe working practices.

The following experience/qualifications are desirable but not essential: -

Experience surveying turbines, generators, rotating equipment, or other high-precision mechanical assets (e.g. power plant components) with tight tolerances.
Membership of a relevant professional body and/or professional qualification (e.g. RICS, CICES).
Experience in MEI-related construction projects.
SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
CAA-recognised drone operator qualifications (GVC and/or A2 CofC).
First Aid at Work qualification.
