About The Role
Our client, a major U.S.-based retailer operating at enterprise scale, is seeking a Backend Engineer with a strong foundation in GenAI. This role supports the development of data infrastructure and GenAI-powered workflows used by internal trend research and product design teams. This position operates in a hybrid environment with working hours aligned to the Central Time Zone.
Job Description
In this role, you will build and enhance backend systems that power next-generation GenAI tools. You will collaborate closely with data scientists and backend engineers to develop, optimize, and instrument core infrastructure components—specifically storage, hybrid indexing, and search systems that support a large, multi-modal library of documents and images used daily across the organization.
You will apply experience in Python development, data engineering, and modern GenAI patterns to ship scalable, enterprise-ready systems. This includes working with databases, object storage, vector indexing, RAG workflows, agentic AI, and programmatic GenAI pipelines. Success in this role requires strong technical skills, fluency in emerging GenAI frameworks, and comfort working in a highly collaborative Agile environment.
Qualifications
Required
5+ years of relevant industry experience.
Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative Agile engineering environment.
Fluency in Python and its ecosystem.
Experience with PostgreSQL, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, and object storage technologies (e.g., S3).
Strong knowledge of emerging GenAI patterns, frameworks, and use cases, including:
Multi-modal RAG
Agentic workflows
Context engineering
Experience with multiple GenAI models (e.g., Gemini, ChatGPT)
Experience building systems and infrastructure to clean, tag, and index data for GenAI consumption.
Experience developing applications in a containerized environment.
Experience building programmatic workflows targeting GenAI APIs or toolchains.
Familiarity with frameworks such as LangGraph and LangChain.
Knowledge or hands-on experience with vector databases.
