Senior Java Software Engineer (Contract | Hybrid – Austin, TX)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to join a large enterprise technology team supporting critical business applications. This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing existing Java-based systems, improving functionality, and ensuring high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions.

This is a great opportunity for developers who enjoy working on complex systems, improving business logic, and enhancing user-facing applications in a collaborative development environment.

What You’ll Do

Develop and enhance Java-based enterprise applications
Update and improve business logic, system functionality, and user interfaces
Build and maintain RESTful APIs and web services
Support application enhancements, bug fixes, and ongoing system maintenance
Perform code reviews, unit testing, and documentation
Troubleshoot issues and perform root cause analysis
Work across multiple environments to ensure stable releases
Follow security, testing, and coding best practices
Collaborate with developers, analysts, and technical teams to deliver solutions

Required Skills & Experience

8+ years of Java development experience
Strong experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
Experience building applications on the J2EE platform
Strong SQL experience with relational databases
Experience developing RESTful APIs using Spring Framework
Experience with Spring AOP (transaction management, security)
Experience writing unit tests using JUnit

Nice to Have

Experience with Angular
Experience with Crystal Reports
Experience building dashboards with Power BI

Work Environment

Location: Austin, TX
Work Model: Hybrid (onsite + remote flexibility)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours
Contract Length: Approximately 5 months with potential extension
On-call support may be required occasionally

Candidates must currently reside in the Austin, TX area
Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams
