Job Title: Software Engineer II (Python + Hardware Control)

Location: Redmond, WA (Onsite)

Duration: 12 Months

We’re looking for a Software Engineer (Python) to join an advanced engineering and lab automation team. This role is ideal for someone who loves working at the intersection of software, robotics, sensors, and mechanical systems.

You will build and maintain Python-based control software for complex hardware setups such as fan arrays, wind systems, robotic components, and multi-channel audio measurement tools. This is a hands-on, hardware-focused engineering role, not a typical web/application software position.

You will work on cutting‑edge hardware automation, combining software engineering with robotics, acoustics, and aerodynamics. You’ll be part of a team pushing boundaries in next‑generation wearable and hardware technologies.

Responsibilities:

Develop high‑quality Python software to control and automate complex hardware systems
Implement real‑time control algorithms for motors, fans, and actuators
Build tools for generating and controlling airflow patterns (laminar, turbulent, gradient, etc.)
Integrate and control secondary systems (robotic movers, lift systems, audio setups)
Work with motion capture systems for alignment and tracking
Create automated calibration workflows for sensors and instruments
Build data pipelines for collecting, analyzing, and processing sensor and experimental data
Troubleshoot multi‑component systems (software + hardware)
Write clear documentation for control software and processes

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field
Strong professional experience with Python (3.8+)
Experience controlling real hardware systems (motors, actuators, sensors)
Knowledge of control systems, PWM, and hardware communication protocols (serial, Ethernet, etc.)
Strong experience with scientific computing (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas)
Experience with audio or multi‑channel data acquisition
Comfortable working onsite in a lab with mechanical/electrical systems
Strong debugging skills across hardware + software environments
Experience with Git and configuration files (YAML/JSON)

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

Robotics or motion control experience
Familiarity with spatial audio concepts
Experience with integrating motion capture systems
Exposure to aerodynamic or acoustic measurement tools
Basic GUI development experience
Cross‑platform software development (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Wearables experience
