Role: Automation Test Lead (Selenium / Playwright)

Location: Toronto, ON

Job Type: Contract

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Automation Test Lead with strong expertise in Selenium and/or Playwright to lead our QA automation initiatives. The ideal candidate will design scalable automation frameworks, mentor team members, and drive quality engineering best practices across projects.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

Lead and manage the automation testing team.
Define automation strategy, roadmap, and best practices.
Estimate automation effort and plan sprint deliverables.
Collaborate with Product Owners, Developers, and DevOps teams.

Automation Development

Design and maintain robust automation frameworks using Selenium (Java/Python/C#) and/or Playwright (TypeScript/JavaScript).
Develop reusable automation libraries and utilities.
Implement CI/CD integration (Jenkins/GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps).
Automate functional, regression, integration, and API test cases.

Technical Responsibilities

Implement Page Object Model (POM), BDD (Cucumber), or similar design patterns.
Ensure cross-browser and cross-platform test coverage.
Perform code reviews and enforce coding standards.
Integrate test execution into CI pipelines.
Maintain test data management strategies.

Quality & Process Improvement

Define KPIs and quality metrics (test coverage, defect leakage, automation ROI).
Conduct root cause analysis and improve test reliability.
Drive shift-left testing and continuous testing practices.
Support performance and API testing initiatives when required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

Strong hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver.
Strong experience with Playwright automation.
Proficiency in one or more programming languages: Java, Python, TypeScript, JavaScript.
Experience with TestNG/JUnit/Mocha/Jest.
CI/CD tools experience (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
Version control systems (Git).
API automation experience (RestAssured/Postman).
Knowledge of SQL and database validation.
