Contracting Authority: Attorney General's Office | Government Legal Department
Contract Length: 24 months (up to 2 years)
Security Clearance: BPSS required. SC required prior to start. DV may be required post-commencement.
Location: London, Croydon, Bristol, Leeds, or Manchester
If not London-based, weekly attendance at (London HQ) required
60% onsite per week
Pay Rate to Candidate (Inside IR35):
£800-£900 per day (Umbrella) depending on experience
Qualifications Required: APM, MSP or PRINCE2
We are seeking a Deputy Director to lead the Legal Practice Management (LPM) Programme - a pivotal, large-scale transformation programme modernising legal practice operations.
This is a senior Programme Director (SCS1 level equivalent) position requiring visible leadership, exceptional stakeholder management, and demonstrable experience delivering complex government transformation programmes involving technology services.
The programme is at a critical stage in its life cycle. A robust, government-aligned delivery plan is required to successfully deliver intended outcomes and benefits. The successful candidate will bring best practice in programme delivery, governance, digital standards, and security compliance, ensuring adherence to:
Government Functional Standards (GovS 002, 003, 005, 006, 007)
Government Digital Service (GDS) Service Standards
Technical Code of Practice (TCOP)
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the full LPM Programme, including:
Contentious, Non-Contentious and Technology workstreams
Project Management teams
PMO function
Finalise and secure approval for the LPM Final Business Case
Develop and deliver the Beta Phase plan (development, testing, operational readiness, business change)
Oversee Development, Testing, Business Change and Operational Readiness activities
Manage programme budget, forecasting and financial controls
Produce high-quality Management Information for Programme Board, DPAC and EXCO
Ensure successful completion of:
Government Project Delivery assurance gates
GDS Service Assessments
Implement robust RAID management and critical path oversight
Ensure strong integration between the LPM platform and HR/Finance systems
Routinely audit projects for methodology compliance and benefits realisation
Conduct post-implementation reviews to evidence ROI and business benefit achievement
Provide delivery assurance and progress briefings to:
Permanent Secretary
Directors General
Executive Committee (EXCO)
Board
Audit & Risk Committee (ARAC)
